Higher Marketplace costs: many Texans never paid their first premium

The Texas Tribune reported that 21% of Texans who signed up for a 2026 Marketplace plan did not pay their first premium, after the extra federal subsidies ended and prices went up.

If you don't pay the first month, your coverage never starts. Before you renew for 2027, update your income and household so your tax credit is correct, and compare Bronze, Silver and Gold plans.

Our agents can review your options with you for free, in English or Spanish.

How to avoid Medicare scams this season

Medicare will never call you uninvited to ask for your Medicare number or bank information. Hang up on callers offering "free" gifts or new cards.

Work with a licensed agent you can meet in person, ask for their name and license, and never pay a fee to enroll in a plan.

Report suspicious calls to 1-800-MEDICARE.

Frequently asked questions

When can I change my Medicare plan?

During Annual Enrollment (Oct 15 – Dec 7). If you're in Medicare Advantage, you can also make one change Jan 1 – Mar 31. Some life events, like moving, give you a Special Enrollment Period.

What's the difference between Medicare Advantage and a Supplement?

Medicare Advantage replaces Original Medicare with an all-in-one plan and a network of doctors. A Supplement works alongside Original Medicare to pay your share of costs, and lets you see any doctor who accepts Medicare.

Can I get Obamacare outside Open Enrollment?

Only with a qualifying life event — losing other coverage, marriage, a new baby, or moving. You usually have 60 days after the event to enroll.

Does using an agent cost more?

No. Our help is free. Plan prices are the same whether you enroll on your own or with us.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Your ID, Medicare or insurance card, a list of your doctors and medicines, and for ACA plans an estimate of your household income for next year.
